چکیده

A method is in development which should allow the determination of absolute number densities of H and 0 atoms in flames from two-photon laser-excited fluorescence measurements. The calibration will be based on reference experiments in a discharge-flow reactor. In this study, the influence of fluorescence quenching and the generation of additional H and 0 atoms by laser photolysis of the flame gases is investigated. Consequences for typical hydrogen-oxygen flame conditions are discussed.

Multiphoton photochemical and collisional effects during oxygen-atom flame detection.

A Nd:YAG-pumped dye-laser system was used to two-photon excite oxygen atoms at 225.6 nm in an atmosphericpressure CH(4)-N(2)O-N(2) flame. Subsequent emission at 844.7 nm from the directly populated state as well as a stronger emission at 777.5 nm that was due to the O(3p(3)P ? 3p(5)P) collisional-energy transfer process was monitored. Two-photon-resonant oxygen-atom and hydrogen-atom (656.3-nm)...

Exploring Renner-Teller induced quenching in the reaction H(2S)+NH(a 1Delta): a combined experimental and theoretical study.

Experimental rate coefficients for the removal of NH(a (1)Delta) and ND(a (1)Delta) in collisions with H and D atoms are presented; all four isotope combinations are considered: NH+H, NH+D, ND+H, and ND+D. The experiments were performed in a quasistatic laser-flash photolysis/laser-induced fluorescence system at low pressures. NH(a (1)Delta) and ND(a (1)Delta) were generated by photolysis of HN...

Nitrogen Atom Detection in Low-Pressure Flames by Two-Photon Laser-Excited Fluorescence

Nitrogen atoms have been detected in stoichiometric flat premixed H2/O2/N2 flames at 33 and 96 mbar doped with small amounts of NH3, HCN, and (CN)2 using two-photon laser excitation at 211 nm and fluorescence detection around 870nm. The shape of the fluorescence intensity profiles versus height above the burner surface is markedly different for the different additives. Using measured quenching ...

Exploring Renner-Teller induced quenching in the reaction

Experimental rate coefficients for the removal of NH a 1 and ND a 1 in collisions with H and D atoms are presented; all four isotope combinations are considered: NH+H, NH+D, ND+H, and ND+D. The experiments were performed in a quasistatic laser-flash photolysis/laser-induced fluorescence system at low pressures. NH a 1 and ND a 1 were generated by photolysis of HN3 and DN3, respectively. The tot...

THE POLANYI LECTURE Elementary Radical Reactions and Autoignitisn

The kinetics of the elementary reactions involved in the low-temperature combustion of alkanes are reviewed. The reactions are centred on the alkyl radical and its decomposition, recombination and reactions with 0,. A combination of theory, modelling and direct measurements, using especially laser flash photolysis, have played key roles in the characterisation of all three reaction types. A rem...
